PETE THE PILOT BEAR - AN ADVENTURE

Old Ted, Baby Sue Bear, Mark and Toby the blue dog.

Pete the Pilot lives in a house on a hill. Old Ted has lived

here for many years.

Lots of teddy bears are in this house.

                          They are all Pete’s friends.

Joseph and Cindy Care Bear

Cindy Care Bear likes to sit on Joseph Bear’s lap. Joseph often

wears a cub-scout uniform.

Old Ted's model plane

In this house there are also grown-ups, children, animals and

fish in a fish tank.

Pete does not fly a jet plane.  He flies in one of old Ted’s

model timber aircraft.

Pete beside Old Ted's plane

He usually flies from the top of the cupboard across the kitchen, down the hall, then round and round the lounge room.

He always waits until the humans are asleep.

Children might be frightened if they saw their bears moving.

One hot summer night Pete leapt into the cockpit and took off.

MIissie - the Border Collie

‘Good on you, Pete’ all the watching bears called.

‘Woof! Woof!’ barked Missie the border collie.

She was outside but knew what was happening.

Worried Sophie

‘Meow’ Meow!' complained Sophie the black and white cat.

She could see and hear everything and wished she was shut

Outside.

‘Please, PLEASE  be careful!. If anything goes wrong they’ll probably blame me.

THUD!

This night things went wrong from the beginning.

The wing of the plane touched the edge of the lamp and it

began to wobble back and forth.

'Look out! Look out' whined Sophie.   'It's going to crash.'

                  THE LAMP HIT THE FLOOR.

Pete tried to get help.

The carpet stopped it from smashing but the barking   dog and the yowling of the  frightened cat woke up dad.

‘Wha..What’s going on?’  He put on his slippers. He didn’t even notice they were on the wrong feet.  He began to walk in a funny shuffling way down the corridor.

       Pete the Pilot paniced.

He steered the model plane straight for the cupboard top.

Old Ted  waited to help him.

Old Ted rescues Pete

He missed the flat landing and veered off at an angle.

With a mighty splash he nosedived into the middle of the

goldfish tank.

'Oh get out!   Get out' complained Goldie.  'Bert make this

bear and his plane get out of our tank. They're probably

covered with germs.'

The two fish, with a might surge of speed, flipped their

tails.   The plane was propelled out of the tank onto the

carpet.

Old Ted climbed down and pulled the soggy pilot out.

Pete wrapped in the curtain.

There was no time to do very much.    Old Ted wraps the

soggy, dripping bear in the end of the curtains.

A trickle of water still flows onto the carpet.

Old Ted falls face down.

Old Ted flings himself face down.   He pretends he has fallen

off the shelf.

       Dad can't believe his eyes.

I didn't do it. I didn't do it.

Old Ted lies in a crumbled heap on the floor.   A wet glider

plane is on his head.    The lamp has fallen over.   One of the

curtains hang at a strange angle and water is dripping from one

corner.

And the cat.........and the cat  She keeps running round

and round in dizzy circles making strange noises.  'I didn't do it!

I didn't do it.'    Her howling is frenic.

The dog outs continues to bark excitedly 'Ask me. Oh

please, ask me I know who's to blame.'

Dad is too tired to care.   He picks up the lamp and puts

old Ted back on the shelf with the wet plane beside him.

'YEEEEEEEEE!'  His hand accidently touches the end of the

curtain.   Pete's soggy bear body, soft and squelchy brushes

against him.   'Yeeow' he yells again.

He shakes the curtain and the dripping pilot falls to the

floor in a soggy heap.   Dad picks him up and puts him on the

table to dry out.

As he shuffles back to bed he calls to the children.  'It's

just a dream, I think.  We should go back to sleep. I hope I

sincerely hope, it's all going to make sense in the morning.'

IT WAS A LONG,LONG TIME BEFORE PETER WENT FLYING

AGAIN.

I know I will fly again. I AM PETE THE PILOT BEAR!
